'When I was to become homeless, my friends told me: "You won't be homeless, you'll be a traveler, going from one place to the other." Their words gave me hope,' says Maithé, who has just found a home now she's recovered from a speed addiction.

'You are labeled really fast', says Femke, who slept in her car for months, in the freezing cold. 'People think really quickly you're a junkie, or you choose to sleep outside, but you can become homeless very fast, without really having done anything wrong.'

Young women on the streets are more vulnerable than men. 'We know they are asked something in return quite often,' says Jana Vandermeersch, who works for youth organization De Ambrassade. 'Sexual abuse in exchange of money, drugs, or a place to sleep'. 'I never slept,' Océane tells us. Sometimes, just to rest, when my legs were too tired from walking around all the time. But I was harassed a lot.'

In the documentary 'Travelers' three young Belgian women tell their story about how they ended up on the streets, and how they try to pick up their lives again. With the help of local non-profit organizations, like 'Homie vzw', their chances grow bigger.

The main problem is the housing market, says Musti Önlen, who coordinates 'Homie'. 'If you have a home, please hold on to it with both of your hands, because that's the main question our youngsters have: a place of their own to live their life. Many of them come from broken families, or have mental issues. 'We don't always need a lot of theory to help them', says Musti. 'Sometimes it's just enough to pick up your phone, and make them feel heard.'
