UNDER CONSTRUCTION FESTIVAL RAMALLAH

  • The Palestinian Circus School Manzel street, next to the Latin Church Birzeit, Ramallah Palestine (map)

Screening of our documentary in the circus tent in Birzeit, Ramallah on the West Bank. If you really want to know what happens there, you should watch our film here!

This screening is part of the Flemish-Palestinian 'Under Construction' Festival. The Festival is organised by the A. M. Qattan Foundation (AMQF) (Palestine) and Connexion VZW (Belgium), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture.

What Happened in the Tent is an 'acrobatic' tale told by documentary makers Majd Khalifeh and Roel Nollet, in which they're on the search for the binding power of circus, and its ability to connect people across borders. An exchange project between two circus schools - one at the West Bank in Palestine, the other one in Molenbeek in Belgium - brings two groups of youngsters from vulnerable backgrounds together. Each group has its own story about the way they are perceived by others, but they try to bend the negativity, the violence and the discrimination they are confronted with, into a constructive project. 'What Happened in the Tent' is a question and a statement at the same time. The moment they enter the circus, their world changes.  For them, circus is not only tricks and movements, but a way to tackle the challenges of the society in which they live.

The film premiered in Ghent, Belgium, as part of the Under Construction festival and will now be taken to Palestine!
