In Eastern Congo, most people think psychiatric problems are caused by evil spirits. Before patients arrive in a psychiatric center, they have passed by houses of prayer and traditional healers. Most of the time that's where their problems get worse. If eventually they manage to go to a center, their situation is critical. Offering psychiatric support in these circumstances, in an environment that is still recovering from genocide, with almost no means or medication is a real challenge.
